Winter '09 SLS - new Going Boldly strip published

A new GB strip is in this month's Space Lifestyle Magazine (last page).

This issue marks not only the first published appearance of Ed the Gremlin (Tim's officially assigned NSFA gremlin) in the magazine, but it's also the first Going Boldly to be drawn completely digitally.

I've begun drawing on the Cintiq now (from Wacom), which is a touch sentsitive monitor that you can draw directly on w/a stylus. It's a lot easier to draw right onto the screen rather than a separate tablet. I'll still sketch out the rough ideas on paper before moving over to the PC though.

Going Boldly ep 2- Side by side comparison

For my submission to "Space Lifestyle" mag, I decided once again to redraw the artwork from the original strip.

The style had changed so much over the years as I got more used to drawing to the characters, as well as better storytelling, staging and composition techniques. I felt it needed an update.

I also decided to color the artwork after I'd seen the 1st black and white strip lost within all this color in the magazine. Not sure the blonde hair and the yellow background has worked well, but I wanted to strip to pop and this was the best color.

You'll also notice a format change, due to the dimensions of the magazine page.

Space Lifestyle - Summer Issue

The next installment of "Going Boldly" is now available and in FULL GLORIOUS COLOR!

Space Lifestyle Magazine has released it's Summer issue and the comic can be found on pg. 77. For this issue I've decided to bring a little color to the world of "Going Boldly".
